Bringing Sight to the Sightless: Free Cataract Surgery Camps

Free Eye Camp in Sahiwal Sargodha

According to the latest estimates, around 1.3 billion people worldwide are affected by vision impairment and 36 million people are blind. The majority of these people live in developing countries, where barriers such as poverty and a lack of healthcare facilities often prevent patients from accessing the surgical care they need. Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide, accounting for 51% of all cases.

Amir Bilal and his team have been organizing free cataract surgery camps throughout Pakistan since 2020. To date, they have successfully organized 121 camps, including three in the Sahiwal and Sargodha areas where access to healthcare is limited. The population in these areas is mostly very poor and unable to afford even basic medical care.

Amir Bilal and his team, along with a national foundation, have spent around 3 million rupees on this event. The camps provide patients with free cataract surgery, prescribed medicines, and sunglasses. The efforts of Amir Bilal and his team to provide free cataract surgeries to those in need are greatly appreciated and have likely had a positive impact on the lives of many people in Pakistan.
